Families often come to us because they can’t find services that truly meet their child’s needs. Many programs are short-term, don’t accept Medicaid, or focus only on managing behaviors. The Creative Relationships and Emotional Adaptability in a Therapeutic Environment program (CREATE) exists to fill that gap. We offer small, structured groups, typically three to eight participants, led by a master’s-level therapist and supported by trained staff who track progress and reinforce learning every session. Each child works on individualized goals that evolve as they grow, helping them apply skills at home, in school, and in the community.

Our participants represent the whole autism spectrum: some are highly verbal and academically strong but struggle with social cues or emotional regulation; others use limited verbal communication and need help engaging with peers. We don’t define them by “functioning levels.” We focus on strengths, potential, and the belief that every child has something meaningful to express.

CREATE operates after school during the academic year and earlier in the summer. Though classified as an Intensive Outpatient Program, it feels more like a supportive community. It is a safe place where children can practice real-world skills, make mistakes without judgment, and build self-advocacy and independence. We use evidence-supported tools like Zones of Regulation to help them understand their emotions, communicate needs, and gain confidence.

The impact is profound. Children learn to navigate friendships, manage frustration, participate more fully in school, and grow toward long-term independence. Families see transformations that change the trajectory of their child’s life.

Demand for CREATE is high, but staffing and funding limitations, especially for families relying on Medical Assistance, mean many children wait for the support they desperately need. Community backing helps us expand access, hire and retain skilled staff, reduce waitlists, and ensure children receive care they can’t find anywhere else.
CREATE is ultimately about possibilities and reaching goals. It’s about giving young people a place where they are accepted, supported, and equipped to build the meaningful, self-directed lives they deserve.
