Family Based Services

In-Home & Community

Families are not just part of the solution; they are the solution.

When a child is struggling, it rarely happens in isolation. Stress, conflict, and uncertainty ripple through the entire household, and lasting progress cannot occur unless the family system itself is supported and strengthened.

Family Based Mental Health Services (FBMHS or FBS) is a mental health-focused, family-centered program designed to strengthen family dynamics and improve how caregivers and children interact. Although services are documented under the child’s name, treatment involves parents and caregivers, recognizing their central role in creating sustainable change.

Our therapists provide:

  • Family therapy
  • Individual therapy
  • Parent education
  • Case management
  • Collaboration with other providers
  • 24-hour on-call support

Our Family-Based program is built on the understanding that meaningful progress happens where life actually takes place: in the home, at school, and within the community. Services are delivered directly in these settings, allowing therapists to observe real-world challenges and work alongside families in the environments that shape daily behavior. Staff travel throughout Delaware County and Philadelphia, ensuring services remain accessible and responsive to each family’s needs.

FBS teams work intensively with a small caseload, typically managing approximately eight families per team, to provide consistent and individualized support. Treatment focuses on family engagement, communication, and problem-solving, helping parents rebuild confidence in their role while learning practical strategies they can use long after services end. Children and adolescents develop skills alongside their caregivers, reinforcing change across the entire family system.

Rather than focusing on deficits, the program identifies existing strengths and uses them as the foundation for growth. The extended length of FBS allows time for meaningful transformation, not quick fixes. Skills are practiced, reinforced, and integrated into daily routines, so families are prepared to maintain progress and successfully transition to lower levels of care.

At its core, FBS is about sustainability. By strengthening relationships, restoring stability, and equipping caregivers with lasting tools, the program helps families develop the capacity to support their child’s mental health in the long term. Because when the family system is healthy, everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
