For Adults
Transitional Residential Youth Program (TRY)
A Launchpad for Independent Adulthood
The TRY program is basically a program within a program. There are beds set aside for ages 18 - 25 years within the two Community Residential Rehabilitation (CRR) programs, located in Boothwyn & Drexel Hill, PA. We have had several TRY residents who "graduated" from the TRY program into a regular adult bed.
Why TRY Matters
The transition from adolescence to adulthood is a pivotal stage in development. Many young adults are expected to manage employment, finances, healthcare, housing, and personal well-being long before they have had the opportunity to practice these responsibilities. CGRC created TRY to address that gap. Through a blend of coaching, experiential learning, and safe structure, residents gain the competencies needed not only to live independently but to thrive.
Skill-building, Community, and Growth
Residents typically participate in TRY for 2–4 years. During this time, they receive individualized assistance with budgeting, meal planning, home management, transportation, job readiness, and other essential life skills. Participants are encouraged to pursue work, education, or vocational programs during the day, reinforcing the expectations and routines of independent living. Within CGRC’s two Community Residential Rehabilitation (CRR) programs located in Drexel Hill and Boothwyn (Delaware County), four beds are set aside specifically for young adults participating in the TRY pathway. Several program graduates continue to reside within these CRR settings, demonstrating both the stability of the model and its ability to support incremental independence.
Social and emotional development are equally important. Through peer engagement and coaching, residents strengthen communication, problem-solving, and self-advocacy while building confidence and personal agency. The program offers the added support of a TRY Social Worker and TRY recreational worker. It also follows the Transition to Independence Process ( TIP) model, which focuses on educational opportunities, employment interests, community life adjustment, and living situation.
Moving Toward Self-Sufficiency
When residents transition out of TRY, they do so with a stronger foundation, clearer goals, and an increased ability to manage daily life independently. For many, TRY serves as a critical turning point between dependence and self-direction, where future success becomes both realistic and attainable.
